Formal Dress Shopping Doesn’t Have To Be A Struggle

I made my way through all the holiday parties with little to no stress of finding something to wear. Nowadays, I find that it’s not that hard to find cute curvy friendly clothing for everyday wear or even a night out on the town. With stores such as Torrid, PrettyLittleThing, Rue 21, ASOS, and even Express (now that they have extended their sizes)- more stylish clothes are being more readily available with us in mind.

Formal wear on the other hand, has a long ways to go.  The biggest struggle us curvy and plus size women face is finding a formal dress that doesn’t make us feel or look like a sack of potatoes. We are heading into the season of formals, galas, proms etc. and we want to look just as snatched and sexy as the next girl! Below I have curated some looks from a few stores that kept us in mind when it came to formal dresses for the curvy and plus size woman.

Aside from boring and repetitive styles, dresses size 12+ can be really expensive. Finding a formal dress under $200 was extremely difficult, but ya girl came through! Windsor has some really nice dresses that start as low as $50! From seductive yet classy options, to more modest dresses for those not ready to step out their comfort zone and show a little skin.

DressWe.com  was another affordable online store that I came across with formal plus size dresses, but I can’t vouch for the quality or customer service. With literally all of the reviews being positive with 5 stars, I would look into their return policy before making a purchase. If you have made a purchase or know someone who has, please share your thoughts below!

When I went on the hunt for a curve hugging dress to wear to a fundraiser gala 3 years ago, I opted for a local prom shop. Surprisingly, prom boutiques have a good amount of affordable formal dresses that aren’t to ‘promy’ for those of us who are looking for a more mature look. I kept it simpe with a black gown and added some bold accessories to add a little more umph to my look.

If you have a little more coins to splurge, Tadashi Soji and Jovani are two options you may want to check out. Both sites have beautiful gowns with dozens of styles to choose from. I for one wouldn’t mind wearing one of their gowns! When it comes to quality and fit, some of us just don’t want to sacrifice that and I totally get it.

Hopefully this helped you jump start your search for the perfect gown. If you know any other standing stores or online boutiques, share with the rest of us sis!
